I remember being so addicted to Beverly Hills 90210. I would wait for it weekly, waiting for what will happen to the eight people I’d grown to love:
- Jason Priestley as Brandon Walsh
- Shannen Doherty as Brenda Walsh (Brandon’s twin sister)
- Jennie Garth as Kelly Taylor
- Ian Ziering as Steve Sanders
- Gabrielle Carteris as Andrea Zuckerman
- Luke Perry as Dylan McKay (the reason I was watching the show religiously, even after Shannen’s departure)
- Brian Austin Green as David Silver
- Tori Spelling as Donna Martin
I remember being so disappointed when Shannen left the show. Notice how a show is never the same when a member of the original cast leaves?
Now, there’s a spinoff of this much beloved zipcode. I just hope it will live up to the expectations of many. I heard the show will be really raunchy with the first episode having a blowjob scene right off.

The movie, For the First Time, starring local cinemas KC Concepcion and Richard Gutierrez, reportedly earned a cool Php15 million in its first week of showing. Considering the state of the economy nowadays, that is really a BIG amount!
But I have a theory why it earned that much… novelty. This is KC’s first movie and the first team up between the two. KC is daughter of local showbiz Megastar Sharon Cuneta and comebacking actor Gabby Concepcion. She was sheltered and was sparsely shown to the masses. Seeing her acting now is something new to most people.
Story-wise, the movie is so-so.

Thank goodness. Ely Buendia, current Pupil vocalist and former Eraserheads frontman, is now in stable condition according to his manager. He was rushed to the hospital during the E-heads reunion concert yesterday.
Due to chest pains, the singer collapsed during the concert and was rushed to the Makati Medical Center but was later transferred to the Philippine Heart Center for recovery. Rumors has it the singer had to undergo a triple bypass surgery this time. He had two angioplasty done on him about a year or so ago.
Get well soon, Ely!

It was reported that the Eraserheads reunion concert held at The Fort open grounds was attended by no less than 60,000 people. More people than those who attended the Beyonce concert on the same venue.
Phenomenal!

I had to take time off because The Couch Potato had to go off her couch to get some things done. But now that I am back, expect a deluge of updates on what is happening around, locally and internationally.

It was one event that everyone was waiting for. It started as a rumor and then got widespread news through blog posts and text messages.
The Eraserheads was having a reunion concert!
If you are a Filipino, the Eraserheads, or E-heads to loyal fans like me, is a popular band of the 90s. Composed of Ely Buendia, Raimund Marasigan, Buddy Zabala and Marcus Adoro, they set new records while they were still a band. They started a fresh wave of Manila band invasions. Their Ultraelectromagneticpop album broke records when it was released. I still love playing their songs over and over, especially With A Smile.
So the reunion concert was set yesterday, August 30 at 8pm. It was held at The Fort open grounds. The concert started without a hitch. 15 songs straight with a few words here and there. And then all of a sudden, the band asked for a 20-minute break. There was a count down. 20 minutes after, there was still no band on the stage. Until 5 minutes after the break, the band came out minus Ely. Lally, Ely’s sister, read an announcement stating that Ely passed out and had to be rushed to the hospital. The concert was cut short.
Everyone went home quietly after the announcement. It was eerie, sources said.

I read the book. I liked it. I hope the movie won’t disappoint.

I read in the newspaper that Francis Magalona, the local popular celebrity diagnosed with leukemia, was able to undergo at least three chemo sessions already. Since his immune system is down right now, only his immediate family (wife and kids) plus Gloc-9 and Michael V. (both are his close friends) are allowed to visit him. Rapper Andrew E. apparently went to Medical City, where he is confined, to visit him but was refused entrance to his room. Only those listed in the list will be allowed inside.
I pray he will get well soon.

Because Heath Ledger left an old will where no allotment was left for his daughter, the three actors who played versions of Heath’s character, Tim, in fantasy epic The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus did not take their pay and instead gave it to Heath’s daughter, Matilda.
Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell were worried for Matilda’s future as Heath left an old will which did not include the little one.
That’s something, don’t you think?

I cannot imagine what’s the obsession with the song Umbrella. Rihanna, Mandy Moore, Lilla Syster, and then we have a local version sang by KC Concepcion (the ethereal stupid-something she is claiming the song to be). Maybe there are more versions I haven’t heard yet.
If you ask me, the obsession with the song is plain stupid. Enough with the Rihanna version. She has three (or more?) versions of the song herself.

The much talked about movie of the moment is originally slated to open on December 12, 2008. But since Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is moved to July 2009, those in charge of the movie decided to release Twilight earlier.
Yay to all Twilight fans!

Talk of the town here in Manila is the recent appearance of well-known personality Dita Von Teese at a Belo Medical Group anniversary party. She did a strip tease (what else?!) to the delight of the more than 700 guests of the equally well-known Dr. Vicki Belo, the woman behind the medical empire. The party was held last August 8 and it was reported the Belo Group paid Ms. Von Teese a whopping 1M pesos! That’s roughly US$22,000 for only one appearance!

Bea Alonzo will be playing the local version of the widely popular Betty La Fea, which was made into Ugly Betty in the US. Personally, I think the local version will turn out to be corny. I saw the teaser and Bea is over acting, as far as I can tell.
And after much speculation as to who will be playing Armando, Betty’s love interest, it turned out it will be John Lloyd Cruz. Bea’s perennial screen partner.
I believe ABS-CBN 2 is afraid the series will be a flop so they dished out their tried and tested formula… bring in the bankable screen partners together!

Philippines is still 0-0-0 in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Makes you think that we wasted a lot of money sending those athletes abroad. Then again, it makes you also wonder what kind of training they have here.
I pray one of the Taekwondo reps would win.

There’s an ongoing battle in Mindanao right now. The MILF has declared war against every body. More than a dozen people have been killed already and they are still waging war in some provinces.
The government should do something about this. ASAP!
Why would you give the Bangsamoro people a taste of freedom when you know you will not give them that in full???
