I read that Lea Salonga is a big fan of Zia Quizon, Dolphy and Zsa Zsa Padilla‘s daughter. I wonder if she’s really good. I haven’t seen her sing yet as I don’t watch Sunday noontime variety shows anymore. I stopped watching a long time ago. I know there are still good singers in those shows but there are far more wanna-be’s than the legit ones.
I’m off to Youtube to see what this Zia girl is all about. I hope she’s really good and that she didn’t get her mom’s wobbly voice!
April Boy Regino was one of this generation’s juke box kings. He produced a string of hit songs that include Di Ko Kayang Tanggapin, Honey My Love So Sweet, among others. He left the country in the peak of his career for a quiet life with his family in the US. It’s been years and now he’s on the news again.
He was reportedly diagnosed with prostate cancer back in 2009!
April Boy was interviewed by the two giant networks and he confirmed the news. He was indeed diagnosed to have cancer but according to him, thanks to herbal medicine, he is now cured of his cancer.
I am not a fan of the guy. In fact, I am not a fan of novelty songs. But when I hear of someone being diagnosed with cancer and the family is shown I can’t help but react.
Here’s wishing the guy is really cured of his cancer already

Her popularity has gone down already. Avril Lavigne. She used to be the rock princess of the music world. Her songs were huge hits but for some reason, she became just like everyone else… a pop artist! Girlfriend was a hit but I can’t remember what came next from her.
Too bad she was not able to transition from a teen-emo rock artist to an adult artist. I think she lost her focus when she got married and she started partying like crazy!

I think one of the reasons why kids can relate to Taylor Swift can be found in the lyrics of her songs. You can easily relate to it. There are no big words in her songs but ordinary ones that you actually use on a daily basis.
Just read the lyrics of her song You Belong With Me. I was playing its video in Youtube and the lyrics just struck me as really simple words put together to form a coherent thought and all those emotions that we can all relate to at some point in our lives. Especially for the young ones who are experiencing their first loves.
No wonder the girl is popular! And her songs are all big hits!

I have finally seen the video of Hold It Against Me by Britney Spears! It’s her newest single off the album of the same title, if I am not mistaken.
Below is the video for you to watch…
Don’t you just feel that instead of moving forward Britney is moving backwards? The song is reminiscent of her old ones. I think the people behind her thought it would be great to tap into old Britney magic. Unfortunately, the song didn’t make me feel like anything, unlike her Womanizer from her last album.

I like Pink a lot! She is the type of woman I want to be if only I have a choice in the matter. I like tough-looking women. No nonsense, like one of those who can handle herself in tough situations. I like women like that. Tough-looking yet still feminine. And have you seen Pink’s abs? Wow!
I was just telling my sister that if I can only ask a fairy godmother to transform my body into a fit one, I’d be wearing those skimpy cutouts-like outfits worn by Pink in her last concert tour. I’d also flaunt abs like that!

I wonder whatever happened to Vanessa Carlton and Michelle Branch. These two women showed so much promise when they released their first singles back in early 2000, if I am not mistaken. And then three, four hits after, they were gone!
I am just suddenly reminded of them because I saw the music video of A Thousand Miles by Vanessa Carlton in Channel V.

Donny Osmond was upset over Lady Gaga’s Telephone music video which features Beyonce. According to the MSNBC.com article:
The racy video — the full length of which features Gaga in a womens’ prison and sees the pop star kissing another female inmate, writhing about in a prison yard, dancing in a bikini and a bit of semi-nudity (her bum) — has angered the most recent “Dancing with the Stars” champ.
Truth is, I haven’t seen the video yet. I do know the song but haven’t listened to it that well. I do understand where Donny is coming from. He is a parent. Kids these days have access to the internet and in a flash, they can watch all these videos via Youtube. He just doesn’t want his kid to see a video of a very popular pop singer today doing racy things. Lady Gaga, whether she likes it or not, has a responsibility to be a little bit more discriminating when it comes to the videos she makes. She’s very popular and people of all ages like her! Sure, it’s the parents who are responsible for her kids. But with the technology today, kids can still just tune in to MTV and watch the video in a matter of minutes! And what do they get out of watching her video? Learn sex in a bad way!
We are all responsible, whether we like it or not. Especially to those who are way up there than the rest of us. Especially to those people we often see on TV. To whom so much is given, much is expected. Lady Gaga should remember that.

I am not feeling the new/remade We Are The World song. I just can’t imagine why Justine Bieber opened up for the song. Why him? Does it have something to do with Usher being there? He sure is a tween sensation right now. But does he deserve that spot? Miley Cyrus I can imagine why. Taylor Swift or the Jonas Brothers would have been more deserving in my opinion.
And then there’s Lil Wayne. I don’t know with you but I do believe he should not even be there. There were too many artists invited and some of those given their solos were undeserving. In my opinion, of course. Lil Wayne is one of those solos. Include Akon and Wyclef Jean. I hate his solo! Ang OA! Plus the rap part. Blah!
And the finale of the song. My goodness! Is it really just for Haiti, Wyclef?? Ang corny nung pagkakakanta sa totoo lang ha!

Ahhh, the ’80s… The era of the best love songs of all time! For me and all the Gen-Y babies!
Closer You and I by Gino Padilla…
This song is not only a hit song by Gino Padilla but is also associated with the toothpaste Close Up. Yes, it became the official jingle of the popular toothpaste next to Colgate. The song was covered by a lot of local singers including Piolo Pascual. I think this is one of the classics of the ’80s.

Yes! He is definitely coming back to Manila for another night of good music!!!
Ne-Yo who is Shaffer Chimere Smith in real life, America’s pop and R&B singer-songwriter, record producer, and actor, will be coming back for a one-night only concert at the SM Mall of Asia concert grounds on January 9, 2010.
Are you watching? I am! Can’t wait for that night! I just wish it’s in Araneta Coliseum rather than in MOA…

I was just wondering when I am checking out photos from OMG! of the recent VH1 Divas concert why this girl (who’s still a teen, by the way) insists in showing her young body?!? I mean, come on, Miley Cyrus! In last time’s MTV Awards where she pole-danced(!), her bra was showing at the uniquely cut shirt she wore. And then while everyone older than her wore something tasteful in this concert, she decided to wear this!
Moms, keep your kids away from this girl! She’s not a good role model for little girls, believe me.

I really pity Chris Brown. His budding career has gone kaput! The viral video of the best wedding entrance I’ve seen so far has reminded me of him. Chris has so many hit songs and Forever is one of those. It could have boosted his career more if he’s still as popular as before, this viral video.
Chris should become an example to those with anger issues. Get help! If you feel this tendency to be violent, hurting others physically and emotionally, go and get the help of a professional. It can make a huge difference! Had Chris thought of that, he could have avoided hitting Rihanna and the whole brouhaha over that hitting incident should never have happened.
Yes, we got mad at him for hitting a woman, choking her, almost killing her in the process. But when you think about it, this guy has issues he neglected to deal with. He needs help more than anything else.

Please read this article, My close encounter with Michael Jackson, by Gwen J. Cariño and be part of her recollection of her brief encounter with the King of Pop while he was in Manila for his History concert.
For whatever he’s done, you can’t argue the fact that he’s made so many people happy during his lifetime.
