Reality shows

GMA-7 and ABS-CBN is signing up all their reality tv stars. It’s stupid and unfair when you think about it. I mean they are giving these reality show contestants false hope of getting a showbiz career after their stint in the reality show. Unfair and harsh!

Consider Pinoy Big Brother, Pinoy Dream Academy, Philippine Idol, Survivor Philippines, and other reality shows out there. So the men and women who joined, including the teens from the Teen Pinoy Big Brother, signed contracts with the networks where the shows were aired. Where are they now? They stopped going to school, resigned from work, left their families in the province because they were promised stardom. These people are only popular while the show is being aired and then a month or two after the show, unless they are remarkably unforgettable, the novelty will wear off. When a new season of the reality show they were seen airs, people will forget them.

I wish these giant tv networks will stop giving people false hope. Not all of them has star potential. We all know that.

Celebrity Duets

Season 2 of the local version of Celebrity Duets aired at GMA 7 will start tonight. The celebrity contestants are Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Bayani Fernando, beauty expert Cory Quirino, comedian-turned-politician Joey Marquez and his sister beauty queen cum supermodel Melanie Marquez, QTV’s “Ka-Toque” co-host and chef JL Cang, former Bb. Pilipinas-World Carlene Aguilar, Fil-British professional soccer player Phil Younghusband, and fashion designer JC Buendia.

Hosts of the show are still Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez. There will be a new set of judges composed of Freddie Santos, Danny Tan and the first Celebrity Duets winner Tessa Prieto-Valdez.
